When it comes to your favorite food, are you vegan?
From the New York Times: You’ve been asked whether you eat vegan food all the time, but for some it’s the ultimate taboo, says David Bierut, an associate professor of nutritional sciences at the University of Minnesota and author of the new book “Food, Food, Food: How to Eat Vegan for Life.”
Many vegans have avoided animal products and are more likely to say that their main food source is raw, natural foods, which include fresh, organic and local.
The reason, says Bierute, is because we think of raw foods as something that can’t be changed, and we don’t think about it in terms of food safety.
For some, raw food is a luxury, but most of us have plenty of raw, organic foods that we love to eat.
But for many, it’s not something that we consider healthy.
“It’s not like we eat this because we like it, we eat it because we can afford it,” says Biersut.
He says many vegans eat the same foods over and over again.
The same thing happens for other vegan groups, which often include other groups that have similar dietary practices.
For instance, the National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws is the main lobbying group for the marijuana industry.
Bieruts group is also one of several that advocate for “vegan foods,” but he says the term vegans themselves are often misunderstood.
“A lot of people think of veganism as a way to be able to eat food that’s really healthful, and veganism is really just about being compassionate and accepting the things that are important to you, and not judging them,” he says.
That includes avoiding animal products, which are often considered more harmful to health than the animals themselves.
But it also means eating raw, naturally grown foods, and eating fresh foods, especially local and organic foods, Bierutes group says.
It is also a sign of commitment to a lifestyle that he says most people do not subscribe to.
“We’re not trying to change the world in some way.
We’re trying to eat better and better and improve our quality of life,” he said.
The vegan lifestyle is also an evolutionary necessity, says Robert Briscoe, the president of the Animal Legal Defense Fund.
“This is a way for people to survive on the planet.
You have to do it, otherwise we’ll be gone in a few thousand years,” he told CNN.
Biersuets book was recently featured on CNN’s Food Network series “World at One.”
He says people often assume vegans are selfish or don’t care about others.
But he said he is not alone in his commitment to animal rights.
“Veganism has become a way of life, it is a cultural norm, and it is also becoming a way that people relate to one another,” he added.
“And that is very important.”
He also has a message for those who are vegan and say they eat a lot of animal products.
“When you’re eating a lot, it means that you have to be really conscious of what you’re doing,” he advised.
“I can’t emphasize enough that I eat raw meat and eggs every day.
I don’t know if you can tell, but I eat a fair amount of it.”
The National Organization of the Reform-Laws, the largest lobbying group on the issue, has its own vegan food website.
They also advocate for the use of plant-based foods and argue that it is time to make it legal to eat them.
It also supports veganism for health and wellness reasons, as well as the environment, Briscoes group says on their website.
“Our goal is to help all people live a vegan lifestyle that will help the planet, sustain our children and create jobs for our farmers and ranchers,” Brisco says on the organization’s website.
The group says their website also offers information on what kinds of foods they recommend.
